Minimum mandatory kit
Please note that this is the minimum that you must always carry on the hill. You know your own requirements, so do pack the extras that you know you will need to keep yourself safe, warm and dry.
If you turn up without the correct kit we will send you shopping!

| Insulated Jacket | A synthetic insulated jacket with full sides, arms and a hood |
| Long sleeved Mid-Layer | A mid-layer with long sleeves – this is something to go over what you may have started running in but before you need an insulated layer – think windproof or Merino |
| Gloves or mittens x2 pairs – (or 2 distinct layers) | One pair of gloves or mittens for warmth and one pair of waterproof gloves or mittens |
| Warm hat | Warm hat - wool or fleece – bobble or beanie |
| Emergency long sleeved layer | A long sleeved layer that is packed in your bag in a dry bag and is only opened in an emergency |
| Emergency leggings | Full length emergency leggings (think merino not your Grandma’s tights) that are packed in a dry bag in your bag and only opened in an emergency |
| Water bottles | Water bottles or hydration pack that will hold at least 1 litre |
| Water filtration or purification system | Either water purification tablets or a water filtration system to access water from streams / springs on the hill |
| Headtorch x2 | 2 x Headtorch with at least 200 lumens |
| Spare batteries | A spare fully charged battery or AA/AAA batteries that you can insert into the headtorch |
| Toiletries and Medication | Any personal items that you will need to keep yourself safe & happy –personal prescriptions – particularly if time specific – also think poo |
| Basic first aid kit | A first aid kit that will have the basics for cleaning and taping cuts and abrasions, some pain relief (not NSAIDs – ibuprofen / Nurofen) anti-histamines of your choice and a blister management kit |
| Whistle | A whistle that can be used to attract attention |
| Sleeping bag | This must have a comfort level of at least 5 degrees and be packed in a dry bag |
| Bivvy bag for sleeping | Something to keep your sleeping bag dry and is reusable. This is for both sleeping on the hill and in case of emergency |
| Food | Enough to last between check points and not be solely reliant on gels |
| Emergency food | A minimum of 500 calories of emergency food to use only in a race ending situation |
| Map of the route | Recommend Harvey Cape Wrath Trail North and South |
| Mobile phone | With race contact numbers pre-programmed. |
| GPS devices | At least 2 separate devices with the race route (and any designated alternate routes) pre-loaded. One of these devices can be your mobile phone. Battery life must be sufficient to last a minimum of 24 hours. |
| Battery pack | Minimum 10,000mAh plus whatever cables you need to charge your phone, watch etc on the move. |
| Midge head net | To protect from Scottish biting beasties |
| Means of payment | For on-route food or transport if dropping out. Can be Apple / Google Pay, but £50 cash also. |
| If hot: sun hat, sun screen, sun glasses | Hot weather kit – can be in your drop bag and carried if instructed to |
