Shared experiences are often some of the best and friendships forged through adventure often last a lifetime. We understand the value in a seeing a friendly face or a shout of encouragement from your family, friends or your dog!
On this page you’ll find all the information about supporters, what is allowed, what isn’t and how your family and friends can help you get to the finish line.
Pairs Entry
We won’t beat around the bush, if you are someone who would benefit from company we would recommend our pairs entry. We are limiting the numbers in our first event so if company on the trails is your thing, pairs will be the way to go.
How can my supporters best encourage me?
The easiest way is to share your tracker information with them. That way they will be able to watch your progress all the time. They will also be able to send you messages of encouragement through ‘Trail Mail’ which participants will be able to access at each aid station.
Where can supporters see me on the route?
This very much depends on how far your supporters are willing to travel! Please bear in mind that many of the highland roads are single track roads that require confident drivers.
Supporters are not allowed into any of the aid stations. Our staff need the space to support our runners and going into aid stations is a hard no.
However, some good places to support are:
- Kinlochbervie (though it’s a long way North!)
- Oykel Bridge
- Kinlochewe
- Shiel Bridge
- Glenfinnan
- Or anywhere else that the route crosses a major road.
Supporters are not allowed to go to Kinloch Hourne or Strathan. Supporters turning up at these locations will lead to the disqualification of the athlete they are supporting, without exception.
What can my supporters do?
Your supporters are welcome to cheer you through a location, give you an encouraging hug or woof and remind you how amazing you are to undertake the Cape to Glen Event.
It is against the event rules for supporters to:
- hand anything to you or take anything off you,
- join you on the trails or accompany you for any distance, except for your registered Support Runner (see below) who can join you for the last section only,
- allow you to sleep in any vehicles that your supporters may be driving.
Support Runners
For solo runners, a registered Support Runner is encouraged (but optional) from Morvich to the end. The final 47 miles of the route are as remote as they are beautiful, and after 160 miles a friendly face for the final push might just be what you need to get you through.
Support Runners must:
- Be officially signed up as part of your entry,
- Have the skills to manage themselves in remote mountain environments,
- Be able to navigate,
- Carry the same mandatory hill kit as all other entrants,
- Always stay with their runner,
- Agree to all the terms and conditions of the event.
For a registered Support Runner we will:
- Provide a tracker
- Add them to our event safety lists
- Transport a bag to the finish
There will be a fee of £100 for a registered Support Runner. This is non-refundable. If you do not make it as far as Morvich, your Support Runner will not be allowed to run.
However, if they wish to enter the event themselves the following year, anyone who has acted as a Support Runner for someone else will be given a guaranteed place with a priority entry window and the £100 will be discounted off their entry price for the following year only.
